About Zeiger Crane Rental, Inc.

 

Zeiger Crane Rental, Inc. was established by Steven R. Zeiger in Palm Beach County Florida in May 1986. According to an article in Modern Contractor Solutions, dated May 2008, Zeiger Crane “covers the Sunshine State from Pensacola to Jacksonville to the Florida Keys.” The majority of the company’s work, though, is in the southern part of the state.

In addition to its headquarters in Palm Beach County, Zeiger Crane used to have a branch office based in Fort Myers, Florida. Zeiger sold the Fort Myers crane yard in late 2004 to Sims Crane for $1.3 million. Fredrick Corey Roberts, Zeiger Crane’s operations manager, stated in an October 2007 deposition that the company had reduced in size from about 56-57 cranes in the summer of 2005 to about 40 cranes in late 2007. He stated that the downsizing was due to a lack of work.

Through mid-2005 Zeiger Crane’s southeast Florida operation was based out of a facility at 4545 45th St. in West Palm Beach. In November of that year a Zeiger-controlled entity, Dyer Road Property, LLC acquired a new office and crane yard at 4641 Dyer Boulevard in Riviera Beach and subsequently moved into the new yard.

While Zeiger performs all manner of crane work, its fleet consists predominantly of mobile hydraulic and crawler cranes and specializes in tilt wall work. The company owns a fleet of 36 Link-Belt cranes as well as over a dozen semi trucks that transport crane equipment.

 

About the Owner

Steven R. Zeiger originally hails from the greater-Cleveland area in northern Ohio. Mr. Zeiger, along with his father, Robert, formerly ran a company called B-Z Steel Erection, Inc., based in North Royalton, Ohio.

Affiliated Companies

Atlantic Leasing, Inc.

pictureAtlantic Leasing is registered out of the same 4651 Dyer Blvd. address as Zeiger Crane’s headquarters. As recently as November 2009 the company was co-owned by Zeiger with former business partner Nancy Zeiger. Each owned 50%. Now, Steven Zeiger retains sole and exclusive ownership of Atlantic Leasing.

The company is a frequent co-debtor on loans taken out by Zeiger Crane. Florida workers’ compensation claims suggest that Atlantic Leasing also employed individuals working out of Zeiger Crane’s yard.

In the past Steve and his former business partner used Atlantic Leasing as a vehicle to own stock in a company called Ion Media Networks, Inc.

Zeiger Investments, Inc.

Also formerly co-owned by Steven and Nancy Zeiger – now owned exclusively by Steven Zeiger – this entity was used to purchase Zeiger Crane’s former yard at 4545 45th St. in West Palm Beach. According to Florida corporate records, this entity has been listed as “inactive” since September 2008.

Dyer Road Property, LLC

Steven Zeiger established this entity to purchase the crane yard at 4651 Dyer Blvd. in Riviera Beach, Florida. Dyer Road Property acquired the crane yard and office facility in 2005 for $2.05 million. The company took out no mortgage to purchase the property, and public records indicate that it was paid for in cash.

In August 2008 Dyer Road Property took out a $3,564,000 mortgage on the crane yard from Zeiger Crane’s principal lender Financial Federal Credit, Inc. (FFC). The mortgage was to be paid out over the course of 20 years.

However, a little over year later in October 2009 FFC and Dyer Road Property modified the original mortgage. FFC agreed to secure only $1.8 million of the crane yard as collateral, potentially freeing up Zeiger/Dyer Road to borrow additional funds on the yard’s equity. As of November 24, 2009 there have been no additional loans.
